Nestled in the heart of the Normandy hillside, not far from St Pierre sur Dives, you will find the vineyard of ARPENTS DU SOLEIL. Located on a south facing hill it obtains a warm, dry microclimate and benefits from the same exceptional soils ( Anthropic rendzina  on upper Bathonian), as those which made the Grand Cru wines worthy of their name. Indeed, there was once a vineyard on this site in medieval times, which prospered up until the 18th century. The name of Normandy’s unique vineyard finds its roots as far back as this epoque , when the wine-makers of the middle ages noted the vineyard perfectly exposed position and following their innate sense of nature led them to name the vineyard, ‘The Sun’. ARPENTS DU SOLEIL literally translates as ‘Acres of Sun’.

Gerard Samson is a dedicated and passionate winemaker; Following an intensive and thorough education and training in Burgundy, both in the theory and practice of winemaking; his interest in the trade took him around France and Europe to discover the secrets of the best wine-producing areas. Inspired to grow grapes to their optimum quality, in1995he undertook to rediscover the long lost secrets of the land that was once called the ARPENTS DU SOLEIL.
